Post subject: Ostrow, Ostrowo, Ostrowite?
Hi Elzbieta,
You were gracious enough to help me awhile back with a marriage record translation, but after having gone through a few more records from my Wisniewski family, I can't seem to figure out which village name is correct (and I need to know in order to continue to search for missing records). Could you possibly help me clarify? I've included how google and imtranslator.com has translated each place name. Here is what I have so far:
From Maciej Wisniewski's marriage record, 1831 (http://polishorigins.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=14219&highlight=#14219):
"urodzonym w Ostrowie z Blazeja i Zofii Wisniewskich gospodarzy w Ostrowie zamieszkałych i zmarlych,”
Which you (Elzbieta) translated as:
"born in Ostrowo, son of Blazej and Zofia spouses Wisniewski, farmers residing in Ostrowo, deceased”
google: born in Ostrow of Blazeja and Sophie Wisniewski hosts in Ostrow living and the dead
imtranslator: born in Ostrów Wielkopolski, with Blazeja and Wisniewskich hosts in Ostrów Wielkopolski, living and departed loved ones
From Karol Wisniewski's 1st MR, 1822 (http://polishorigins.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=14382&highlight=#14382):
"dowodzacy zlozona przed nami metryka wycieta z ksiag kosciola parafialnego Ostrowiskiego iz skonczyl lat dwadziescia jeden wieku swego”
Which you (Elzbieta) translated as:
"who filed before us a metric cut out of the books of the parish church in Ostrowite demonstrating he is twenty-one years evolved”
From Karol Wisniewski's 2nd MR, 1834:
“urodzonym w Ostrowie w Wielkim Księstwie Poznańskim”
google: born in Ostrow in the Grand Duchy
imtranslator: born in Ostrów Wielkopolski in the Grand Duchy of Poznań
From Karol Wisniewski's 3rd MR, 1854:
“urodzonym w Ostrowitem”
google: born in Ostrowite
imtranslator (failed me this time): born in Ostrowitem
From Maciej Wisniewski's death record, 1861:
“urodzony w Kornatach Wielkiem Księstwie Poznańskiem”
google: Born in the Great Duchy of Poznan region Kornati
imtranslator: born in Kornati Great Duchy of Prussia
From Dorota Wisniewski's death record 1811 (she was Maciej & Karol's sister):
"corka w wsi Sierakowie urodzona"
google: daughter born in the village Sierakowie
imtranslator: daughter in the village of Sieraków born
From their mother Zofia (nee Prasolek) Wisniewski's death record, 1811 (Wawrzyniec is her brother):
"i Wawrzyniec Prasolek Parobek z Wsi Ostrowa lat pięćdziesiąt liczący”
google: and Lawrence Prasolek Farmhand of Rural Ostrow fifty years counting
imtranslator: and Lawrence Prasolek Farmhand with the village of Ostrów years fifty with
My dilemma is that while Ostrowite may be the birth place for Karol, Sierakowo & Kornaty are farther away from Ostrowite/Giewartow/Gostun and closer to Ostrowo Koscielne, which is a different parish. However after consulting google maps, Ostrowo is slightly north of Slupca county and I'm not sure if that is a likely place to also search for records. Admittedly I've so far only searched marriage records for Maciej & Karol's parents (Blazej & Zofia) in Ostrow Koscielne but did not find any. I still need to search the microfilm to see if Karol & Maciej were born there, as that should be the parish where Kornaty falls.
I'm not sure if this helps to clarify the confusion of the Ostrowite/Ostrowo place name, but it appears based on a rough timeline that the family (Blazej, Zofia, Karol, Maciej & Dorota) moved from Kornaty to Sierakowo (where both Dorota & Zofia died in 1811), then Karol married in Mlodojewo (1822), Maciej married in Mieczownica (1831) & his family settled in Gostun/Giewartow, Karol married again in Mieczownica (1834) and two more times after that, but for the most part his family stayed in the Mieczownica area.
Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Jackie

Jackie,
I have found them in www.slupcagenealogy.com (marriage and death). It mentions the villages Marcewo and Mieczownica, as belonging to the parishes Mlodojewo and Giewartow, respectively, all in Slupca county. All places nearby in map attached. Mlodojewo does not appear but it is right below Marcewo.
Hope this helps you to find more records.
Gilberto

Thank you Gilberto! I see I posted this in the wrong forum, I meant to add it to the Polish Record Translations thread, will need to repost there. I've exhausted all of the family records from Slupcagenealogy.com, I was just hoping that Elzbieta could shed some light on why the Ostrow names differ, and to which location that begins with "Ostrow" would be the best guess that they belong to.

Jackie,
I put all places on a map, attached.
I my opinion Ostrów Wielkopolski is not Ostrowo from your records, too far away.
Based on distances only I could not say between Ostrowo Kościelne and Ostrowite, słupecki.
But if your family used to belong for generations to the parish in Ostrowo Koscielne, you need a real reason to change.
Best,
Elzbieta
