Hi,
I am looking for an 1850 record from Neuendorf, Lauenburg, Pommerania,
which is now Nowa Wies, Lebarski, near Gdansk.
The LDS has only films from 1875 to 1886.
Would records have been left in the Parish church when National Boundaries changed?

I don't know if the record would be from a Catholic or Lutheran church.
Any idea where I might look?

(And I am still searching for the Michalkiewicz's near Pokrzydowo.)

Hi Leonore Smile,

I understand that you are talking about Nowa Wieś Lęborska located here: http://bit.ly/aMu84x Question

In Lębork, to which parish most probably belonged Nowa Wieś Lęborska (Lauenburg Neuendorf), there were three churches: Evangelical, Catholic and Christian Reformed Church. Catholic records for 1850 can be found in Diocese Archives in Pelplin and Evangelical records are stored in State Archives in Gdansk http://www.gdansk.ap.gov.pl/ . In both cases the records kept include 1850. I didn't find any information about Reformed Church records. Yes, it is very probable that they were moved to Germany.

In case of Evangelical search I would advise you to try to contact the State Archives in Gdansk. As always, I recommend James' article about his experience with State Archives in Poland: "Remote" research in Polish State Archives - practical hints .

If this doesn't bring positive results let us know and we try to figure out what to do next to, for example, how to get access to the catholic records in Diocese Archives.

Good luck Exclamation

Hi, Zenon

Thank you for your help. I'll try to get a letter to Gdansk State Archives
tomorrow.
