Hi pdutkiewicz,
In 2009, there were 5,169 adults in present-day Poland with the Dutkiewicz surname. The largest concentration of Dutkiewiczs was in the city and county of Poznan (489). The next largest concentration was in Warsaw (410).
Trying to locate genealogy documents for Antoni Dutkiewicz without the exact location of his place of birth or residence will be almost impossible.
I took the liberty to look at your family tree on Ancestry.com and determined that Antoni Dutkiewicz was the father of Jan/John Dutkiewicz Sr. born on December 24, 1876 in Russia/Poland and died on April 4, 1956 in Bristol, Hartford County, Connecticut, U.S.A. After his immigration, John Dutkiewicz was a lifelong resident of Bristol CT. His father Antoni Dutkiewicz, never immigrated to the U.S.
U.S. Census records indicate that John Dutkiewicz immigrated to the U.S. around 1893.
I was able to locate a Hamburg departure and New York arrival record for a John “Dutkewicz”. He sailed from Hamburg on December 1, 1895 and arrived in New York on December 20, 1895. His ship was the Moravia. John was 18 years old and his ethnicity was listed as Russian. The Hamburg record listed his last residence as “Olesna”” (perhaps it should be Olesnica).
Because john was an early immigrant, His passage records do not contain much genealogy information.
You may want to get a copy of his marriage records to Wladislawa Kucharski from both Hartford County CT and St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church in Bristol. John may have filed for Social Security (form SS-5) and his application may have the names of his parents and his place of birth.
John’s U.S. census documents indicate that he was naturalized sometime between 1910 and 1920. Since that process took place much later than his immigration, those documents should contain information about his immigration process and his ancestral home. The naturalization documents were either filed in the Hartford County court or the U.S. Federal Court in Hartford. The federal documents are on file with the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) located in Waltham, MA. http://www.cslib.org/natural.htm
Best regards,
Norbert
