Hello my fellow P.O. friends,

I had a recent records translation of my great-great grandparents marriage record from 1884 and it listed the grooms mother and father as most all records do. The Father's name Konstanty Szymkiewicz seemed like a typical Polish name no big deal. The mother however was named Julia Dowt; a name I can't seem to find on any lists for Polish or Lithuanian surnames.

I am not an expert on surnames by any stretch, but this one seems to me to be possibly German or some other ethinicity. Maybe it is Polish and it is just a shortened name? Can anyone tell me anything about this or speculate from their experience.

Many Thanks,

Hugh
