I'm not doing very well at all. Only got as far as my grandmother and I'm stuck already. And I have conflicting information.

The death notice for my father's mother, Marjanna Naja, says she was b 1894 in Teresowka, Hrubieszow, daughter of Franciszka Czyz, married to Tomasz Naja.

However, the notices of the two marriages of her sister Walerja, b 1893, in Teresowka, Hrubieszow, say that she is the daughter of Franciszka Naja, unmarried.

I've been using familysearch.org and can't resolve this or find anything else about the three ladies listed above.

There are plenty of Naja in Konopnice, Lublin, but none in Hrubieszow.

What can I do next? Would it help to write to the church in Hrubieszow? Would it help to go there in person? I don't speak Polish.

Hi Helena.. i have been doing genealogy for years and had the same thing happen to me. It seemed like I could not get passed the first step. After many many errors or wanting to find her i was grasping at the wrong info. What i remembered was something someone told me and that was to go back as close to when she immigrated as possible to get the closest spelling/and/or info. Her spelling in the church in US was incorrect also. Believe it or not the Ellis island manifest had a different spelling so i tried it and BINGO . If anything i thought the church was right, not the manifest. So another words go back to when she stepped on/off the ship and try different info because the one you think is way out there maybe your BINGO. good luck Carol Tamara

Hi Carol

Thank you for sharing your experiences of frustration.

My grandmother didn't ever leave Poland, so no Ellis Island or other emigration records are available, alas!

Thank you Henryk. I do not understand your message. Are you saying these records are in these towns or available online?

I have been using the LDS records on familysearch.org and despite hours of searching I cannot resolve the puzzle.

Thanks Henryk. Never head of them, yet there is one near me!

Do they have more information than is available online?

Unfortunately I have received no reply to my email to the local LDS centre, and their phone line is dead.

Can anyone please help me? I cannot get past my grandparents on either side - I can't find any records at all Sad

where are u? CALL INFO and get the 800 no of the main 'LDS CHURCH IN SALT LAKE CITY utah. They should be able to help you locate another center. Most of the center's are run by volunteers on their hours are flexible. In other words may set their own hours. Please excuse my mistakes however I have to use a word recognition system type on my computer. There are very sensitive and sometimes they work and sometimes thenyoney don't. i had my best luck with GENETEKA which is located under databases. it is in polish but i can help you how to search. can anyone explain this to Helena? i will if no one else does. Because of my problem it takes a long time to explain it was someone tell the time for me so I'll take it for you. carol

Hello Carol.

Thank you for trying to help, but I'm not in the USA. There is an LDS listed for this part of the UK and that is the one that is not replying. But as you say they are volunteers so maybe I should just wait.

In the meantime, I wish I could make some progress using the online databases.
