I am researching my great grandfather and his sister, born in Prussia, but don't know the village or parish
Her name was Franciszka and her brother Franciszek A. Kuczynski. Their parents were Wojceich Kuczynski and Katherina Gardzielewski. Franciska Kuczynska married Franciszek Dulski,June 8th,1885 in St. Stanislaus Church, Buffalo NY. The grooms parents were Tomasz Dulski and Elzbieta. Sponsors Jan Sokolowski and Francil Kuczynska.
Is there any way of "tracing back" from this information ? I have tired the Poznan Project and Family Search (Mormons) online with no results. Can you help me or have any ideas what I can try next ? The only other thing I know is that my great-grandfather might have lived in Buffalo a short period, moved to Pomfret ny and was born in 1859-1866.
The only other hints I have is Marienwerder and Borrusia, but not sure of these, either.

Thank you if you can help me.
Regards
Marie (deidre)

Marie,

Borrusia (also spelled Borusia) in Latin for Prussia so that clue is of no help. Marienwerder was the name of a town and of an area in West Prussia---still a rather general clue. I think that the attached maps may give you an general orientation but it is tough to say whether or not that info will help. Nothing shows up on the Poznan Project most likely because West Prussia is a bit out of the project's scope. A bunch of Gardzielskis show up on Geneteka for Pomerania, but not your Catherine.
I presume that you have a copy of the marriage entry from St. Stanislaus. I researched a number of more or less distant relatives who belonged to the parish from the early 1870s on and I remember that most of the marriage and baptismal entries contained detailed info regarding the couple's and the parents' place of origin. Perhaps it may be helpful if you posted a copy of the 1885 marriage entry.

I don't know that this info is helpful but perhaps it maybe a start.

Dave
