Post subject: Birth records of Franciszek & Stefania
Laurel,
Based on the ages in the record Elzbieta just transted, if you look for the birth & baptism records of Franciszek (born c. 1837) and Stefania (born c. 1851) the good news is that you'll not have to deal with the Cyrillic alphabet. Civil registrations in the Russian Partition aka The Congress Kingdom of Poland (Krolestwo Polskie) were in Polish until 1868 and only after that were they in Russian. But then, of course, there is the bad news---records for those years are not online on Metryki. Then there is even worse news----the LDS films do not include those years. However, there is another way to skin that proverbial cat---you can write directly to the parish in Wegrzynowo. The contact info (including email) is on the attachment. Those records will most likely be in Latin and you'll have to depend on the good will of the priest to look up the entries, but the only way to know if things will work out favorably is to give it a try.
Wishing you success,
Dave

Dave and Elzbieta,
I don't want to be rude to the parish priest but should the letter be in English or Polish?
I have a cousin who unearthed a great-great-great grandparent but I think this is Russian? Can someone on this site translate this record or do I need to go elsewhere?
I think this is a death notation for Andrjez Abramski.

Thank you so much. It's nice to know I was able to spot Aleksander. Now I think I just have to be patient and walk through the other records until I find type that looks the same.

Laurel,
It would be better to write to the parish in Polish since not all priests read and write English. You should be able to use the sample sentences found in the LDS Polish letter writing guide to ask for the information you need.
That is the death record of Andrzej Abramski. If you post it on Russian Records Translations it will be translated for you.
Best of luck,
Dave

Elzbieta,
While I was surfing online I found another site that is like an index into the records on Metryki. Geneteka shows Leopold Abramski born 1856 Akt 4 and his brother Wojciech Marek Abramski born 1853 Akt. 37. I'm thinking that the father shown for Wojciech is the same for my Leopold. Both records are shown for Szelkow. I can't find them in Metryki. If Geneteka has them listed they should be in Metryki, right?
Can you help in finding these records or translating them, please?
Thanks,
Laurel Manning

Elzbieta,
Remember when you found the first born son of Franciszek and Stanislawa Abramski? I was able to find the next son, Czeslaw. All this time we thought he was born on board ship as they crossed over because of the Ellis Island records and census. It seems we were wrong. It looks like he was born in Poland but not in Szelkow, in Rozan, on the journey before leaving. He is AKT 294. I would appreciate this being translated. My cousins in Arizona will be thrilled to see an accurate record of their great-grandfather.

I would like to find the parents of Stefania Olszewska, wife of Franciszek Stanczak. Would her death record be in Obludzin where she lived with her husband or would her death record be found in the village where she was born?
Thank you,
Laurel

Laurel,
Her death record would be in the parish where she resided at the time of her death. That would most likely be Obludzin, unless she moved elsewhere before death----possible if she was a widow at the time of her death and went to live with a child or other relative.
Good luck in your search,
Dave

Post subject: Parish address verification- Węgrzynowo
Dave,
My cousin tried to send an email to the address you gave me for the parish in Węgrzynowo so I could get the marriage and birth info for Franciszek Stanczak and Stefania Olszewska. The email came back as undeliverable. Before I go through the expense of snail mail from the states, could you double check the addresses you gave me, please?
Thanks so much,
Laurie Manning

Laurel,
The screen shot with the info is from the official website of the Diocese of Plock and the info is still the same as of today. I don't know where would be a better place to look for the email address. Perhaps before writing a letter you could ask your cousin to check if the email address was typed correctly.
