About two weeks ago I had a great pleasure to assist Michael in his Forefathers Traces Tour. We not only visited his ancestors villages and had luck to find lots of important records in parish churches, but we also found relatives still living there about who existence we had no idea before our arrival Exclamation

Now Michael asked me to explain meaning and origin of his family names: Włodyka and Niemiec.

Włodyka in old Polish - „headman, bishop of the Greek rite”. Also, can derive from root włod- "władać" or in old Polish "włodać" - "to reign, rule", or dithematic names such as Władysław, Włodzimierz.

In 2002 there were 1025 people using the surname Włodyka in Poland, more then 1/3 of them (370) lived in one county - Strzyżów. Detailed map of the surname distribution can be found here https://nazwiska-polskie.pl/W%C5%82odyka .
