Post subject: Marczak, Szpak & Kodak from Czaszyn & Zernica, Lisko
I am researching my husband's great-grandmother Eva Marczak (or Marcyk) born August 18, 1891 in Zernica, Lesko, Galicia to Antony Marczak and Margaret Kodak. Eva arrived in the United States April 27, 1907 where she intended to join her aunt Telka Marczak in Mayfield, Pennsylvania, USA. She had a brother and a sister still alive in Galicia/Poland at the time of her death in 1962. Her sister's name may have been Sophia Ryfun. Sophia had a daughter, Natatia / Natalia Ryfun and possibly two sons, Michael / Michal Ryfun and Dimitri / Dymitr Ryfun who may have lived somewhere in Ukraine in June 1958.
Eva's husband, Samuel (Semko) Szpak was born March 10, 1890 to Stefen and Eva Szpak in Czaszyn, Lisko, Galicia. He came to the United States in June 1907. Samuel had an older brother, Michael (later changed to Nickolay/Nicholas), born June 2, 1888, who came to the USA in October 1904 and married Anne Evaniszk (later Naska), also Polish. Both Szpak brothers and their families settled in Syracuse, NY.
A daughter of Eva's was corresponding with Eva's niece or cousin Magdalena Adamczyk in Koszalin Bosmanska around 1992.
Any information on these families (past or present), would be greatly appreciated. Samuel and Eva's 89 year old son would like to make contact with cousins from Poland. Thank you - C. Zimmer, USA
