I have been searching for my father’s grandmother for the last twelve years, with no luck. I must emphasize I am not asking for a research, but just in case anyone has come across the names below mentioned, I would be happy to know.
The marriage, somewhere in Poland, either in 1889 or (more likely) in 1890, between Franciszek Pietrzak (parents’s names unknown), born about 1862) and Małgorżata Waśkiewicz (maybe Waszkiewicz), born about 1872, a daughter to Kazimierz and Franciszka (maiden name unknown).

Franciszek and Małgorżata arrived in Brazil on November 23, 1890, on ship Strassburg, sailing from Bremen. I am aware there is no passenger lists for Bremen (that frame of time). Immigrants for Brazil in that year were mostly from Płock, Mława and Toruń areas.
Their names were written as “Franz” and “Margaretha”, which makes me think they lived either in Prussian lands or in a village close to the border of the Congress.

They are not indexed in: Poznan Project, Pomorskie Towarzystwo Genealogiczne, Index of Polis marriages until 1899, Lubgens, Geneteka (so far!). I have searched all villages in AP Torun project, with no luck. The same for all villages in AP Mława (in Poczekalnia and only the ones not indexed in Geneteka). So far, no luck.

In Brazil we have no such thing as Tax lists, Voters lists, etc. Most passengers lists only inform name, surname, age, nationality, profession and confession. Period. They did not apply for naturalization papers (rarely one did). I have found Malgorzata’s second marriage record, but it does not say where she was born. Franciszek’s death record was never found, though I have searched for it in all Civil Register Offices in the area they lived.

Thank you all.

Hi Gilberto,
I know you are not asking for anyone to do research for you. I did just want to mention, in case you are not aware of it, that there are records from 1867-1911 for births that occurred on ships which had sailed from Bremen. Doing a search on Ancestry using the name Pietrzak does come up with two reasonable mis-spellings of the name. One is a Petrak, headed for New York, who was born on a ship in 1871 and the other is a Petrizek, headed for Baltimore, who was born in 1870. I offer this just in case your Franciszek might have had much older brothers or cousins who emigrated not to Brazil but to North America. The records are nice because they give a hometown for the families. Perhaps it is a very small chance, but you may look anyway to see if these two families are from Polish towns that you have already searched the records of, for your Pietrzak ancestors. I did not explore any other possible spellings. Maybe you have already seen this database?
Best regards,
Sophia

Hi, Sophia

I was not aware of the Ancestry database you mentioned. Unfortunately, all I know about Franciszek is his approximate year of birth. Currently I am waiting for a search of his second child born in Brazil, in hopes the record may mention the child's paternal grandfathers. If you have access to that database, would you mind telling me what villages those Petrizek and Petrak came from?
P.S.: Today I have finished looking all marriages in mazowieckie and lodzkie (available in Metryki) . Nothing found.

Thank you.

Gilberto

Hi Gilberto,
I am attaching the images for both births, because you may be able to read the place names better than I can. You probably know this, but I will say it here in case someone else reading this discussion wants to try to read them also, what you want is the "Wohnort" which appears on each record twice (once for the father and once for the mother).
Josepha Petrak is entry #134. I think I see "Ogres."
Barbara Petrizek is entry #132. I think I see "Wittingau."
I am not certain of either one.
Best of luck,
Sophia

Sophia,

I read the same and also read Bohemia. At least, Wittingau is listed here, but Ogres does not show up:

Again, thank you

Gilberto
