Post subject: Janiec surname
My wife's family has the family name Janiec. I have been trying to find if there is a coat of arms ( family crest ) for the name Janiec but can only find mention on sites that want to sell it to me in one form or another. I want to make my own plaques. From the looking around I have done it appears that this name may be grouped together with other families in extended family groups as is common in Scottish names but I am not sure. If anyone can help point me in the right direction it would be appreciated.
Janiec surname comes from given name Jan, noted in Poland in that form from the early 13th century.
In 2002 there were 3791 individuals using the surname Janiec living in Poland. Detailed map of the surname distribution can be found here: https://nazwiska-polskie.pl/Janiec
It is possible that there is no coat of arms for this surname. I searched “The Register of Polish Nobility” compiled by Jerzy Sewer count Dunin-Borkowski and published in 1887 in Lwow and there were no Janiec surname (only Janecki, Janek, Janicz, Janik).
