Hi Elzbieta,
I just found this death record for Emilia Lange while looking for Julianna's birth record. It was recorded in "Akta stanu cywilnego parafii rzymskokatolickiej św. Marii Magdaleny w Warszawie (Wawrzyszew)" although the Lange's were not catholic.
Would you kindly translate this for me. Hopefully the parents ages are given.
I still haven't been able to find Julianna's birth record, but now finding Emilia's death record by chance gives me hope again!
Thank you so much in advance for your help.

Helli,

Here is your record.

Elzbieta, I have found several documents that I need translated. I believe a death doc. for Aniela (Pawyza) Sobala, birth record for a Brigida Pawyza? and a Franciszek not sure if this is a Pawyza. My eyes are starting to cross trying to pick out the name from documents I can not read. Please do the best you can, when time allows. Thank you in advance.

Attached is a 1849 marriage record of my 2nd great grandparents (microfilm #998562). The record is from Zarowka, located in SE Poland (near Tarnow). I would appreciate help translating the paragraph at the end of the record written in Polish. I believe the paragraph has something to do with bearing witness or attesting that Catharina Czapiga was indeed a widow and her 1st husband (Andrea Kawa) was deceased. Thank you, Jim

Jim,

The deciphering you wrote down on the original Polish record is not correct.

Here is the whole record, with one word missing [Latin word related to the priest signing this marriage record].

The Latin records in Poland were writing down Latin given names, while everyone was using Polish given names. You can see it here: the names in the annotation are in Polish, written by the same scribe who recorded the marriage.

I hope Dave Nowicki will see this record, and validate Latin.

Best,
Elzbieta

Hi, Elzbieta,

I'm sorry to add to your workload, but I just discovered my great-great-great-grandmother's death record and was hoping you could translate it. Hopefully it isn't too hard to read!

What I find most fascinating is that Marcjanna Krol Gielicz and her mother, Lucja Gierkoska, are recorded as being witnesses at the births of numerous illegitimate children. I am also trying to find Marcjanna's birth record, because so far I do not think her parents were married.

Best,
Hannah

One last bit, I promise...I found these records of unnamed men (presumably) who died in an "insurrection in Dolany/Slugocin," villages very close to Ladek, on 22 March 1864. Do the documents provide any clues about the insurrection? This may have been a catalyst for the records' sudden switch in 1867-8 to Russian/Cyrillic.

One record began on one page and finished on the next, so I cropped and pasted the two together; thus the priest's signature appears twice.

Best,
Hannah

Hi Elzbieta,

Trying to tie up some loose ends.

When time permits-perhaps some details that will help from these records. I think this may be Stanislaw's son's death certificate as well as Kazmierz baptismal years later.

Hey Elzbieta,

I'm hoping you can helping me out with these Polish translations, the older they get, the harder it is for me to figure out what it says.

I know the first document is Jan Miechowicz and Jozefa Bieniek from 1862. The second document is Wojciech Ciepielewski and Paulina Kotowska from 1858.

I really appreciate it.

Hi Elizabieta,

Thank you for your previous translations that you have done for me. I have a death record for my 2nd great grandfather from the Ugoszcz Parish in 1864 that I am requesting you translate. It is in two parts.

I also have what I believe to be a record of a land grant given to my 10th great grandfather in 1672 that I would like translated.

Thank you for all of the assistance that you have given me, it is greatly appreciated.

Hannah,

Thank you for these 3 records. The battles are related to Powstanie Styczniowe - the January Uprising 1863-1864, see URLs and specificaly the map.
The three records were made pursuant to the legal reminder from the Court of circuit Pyzdry, which I guess, was about human duty to burry men killed in battles, no matter their origin.

Best,
Elzbieta

One last bit, I promise...I found these records of unnamed men (presumably) who died in an "insurrection in Dolany/Slugocin," villages very close to Ladek, on 22 March 1864. Do the documents provide any clues about the insurrection? This may have been a catalyst for the records' sudden switch in 1867-8 to Russian/Cyrillic.

One record began on one page and finished on the next, so I cropped and pasted the two together; thus the priest's signature appears twice.

Best,
Hannah

Best,
Elzbieta

Elzbieta, thank you very much! I read about the January Uprising but I did not know it happened right in Lądek on 17 March. The map you provided is wonderful. I wonder if the Gielicz family was involved.

I thank you for the translations as well. Piotr Cichocki was a distant relative.
Best,
Hannah

Hello, all,

I was hoping someone could translate these documents for me - two death records and a marriage record.

I think my 4x-great-grandfather is listed as being a bailiff as opposed to a farmer.

I was also wondering if anyone could tell me the social classes during this time. My 2x-great-grandfather went from being a farmer to a butcher - was that a good profession? And if his grandfather went from farmer to bailiff, was that a good thing as well? I suppose I'm just curious about my family's social standing at the time.

Also - does anyone know when the Poznan Archives plan on releasing more documents to the public? The records for my family's parish, Ladek, stop at 1884, and I would like records from 1884-1900, roughly.

Thank you for any and all help!

- Hannah

Hannah,

Here are your 3 records.

The word "komornik" means here farmer-tenant.
