Post subject: Death place of G-g-grandfather
Greetings to all !
I am wondering if you could help me with a couple of things.
My great grandfather Martinus Braciszewski was born around Slawno,Wielkopolskie, Poland and was married in Slawno Parish to Caecylia Koteras in1849. He was 25 and she was 26.
At 52 years old,Cecylia and their son,also Martin ,16 yo,lmmigrated to NY on the Fulda.The father, Martinus,was not listed with them per Ancestry.com.
I was wondering if he got remarried before they left for the US or whatever happened to him.
Secondly, I did find that gggrandfather Martinus died in Germany,but I don't know where. I do know the cities around where he died were Treffurt,Bad Langensalza,Muhlhausen?Thuringen,Eisnach ,Kammerforst.These were some towns around the area where he died
If there are any records or any information you can send me,I surely would appreciate it.
I don't know of any Catholic cemeteries around there or church documents of his death.It seems that this area in Germany is kind of far from where they might lived in Slawno.

Hi Deidre,
Just a quick note for you. If Cecylia was 26 when she married in 1849, her birth year was about 1823. I see the ship's list that you mention for the Fulda, which was in 1883. Even though she is listed there as being 52 years old, she is likely closer to 60 years old. That is a pretty advanced age for a sea journey at that time. My opinion is that her husband was likely already deceased and that she was leaving with her son Martin because he had become her means of support. My guess, then, is that Martin the elder Braciszewski died 1883 or earlier.

Dear Sophia,
Thank you for your input..I found Cecylia unmarked grave with some helpat St. Adalbert's Old Cemetery in Buffalo Ny and put a temprary marker there.
Could you take a look at the Fulda record again and see if you can make out the word next to artin's name ? It looks like alope ? ,maybe child,what do you think.
Actually Cecylia did make it to Martin's wedding,and diedin 18800 or 1881.
Thankk you for your help and now to find Martinus' place of death in Germany.

Hi Deidre,
I looked again at the manifest for the Fulda. Martin's occupation is very difficult to make out. I do not think it says child, because all of the children on the page have "none" as their occupation. Cecylia also has "none" as her occupation. For Martin, I wonder if it says "clerk" since it is a short word and seems to end in a K.
Just to go back to details of dates, since the Fulda sailed in 1883, Cecylia's death has to have been later than that, not 1880 or 1881 as you mentioned. It is so very nice that you put a marker on her otherwise unmarked grave. That is wonderful!

Dear Sophia,
I have Cecelia's death cert,and I meant to say 1890 or 1891.L also thought that word next to Martin's name was clerk,but when he came here ,he was a laborer on the railroad.
