My PO friends,

I recently received a bundle of translated nobility research on my Frackiewicz-Radziminski ancestors. Most by the time of the late years of the Commonwealth were fairly poor nobles who rented land or owned small parcels of land. some however many generations back had certain titles.

I was wondering if the forum readers could possibly explain what these titles meant. Where they simply honorific titles? Did they have some standing in government?

One ancestor Michal Radziminski-Frackiewicz was refered to as "czesnik of Ozmiany"

-His son Kazimierz was a "King's Captain" perhaps in the army or retinue of the king?

-Jan the son of Kazimierz was a "land juror" which I am guessing is some kind of judge or magistrate??

Thanks to those who can provide potential answers.

Hugh
