Post subject: Prozor (Prodor) Family
I have been researching my family history for some time. I can only go back as far as my grandfather, Leonard Prodor, (6 November 1882 - 11 September 1915). He had two sisters, Julia and Stansliawa. Apparently, the surname PROZOR was mistakenly changed to Prodor on a document around the time of the January Uprising (1863). After the uprising, the Prozor/Prodors were sent to Siberia, Russia. Their estate ws confiscated and their children (one of which was Jozef, the father of Julia, Leonard and Stanislawa Prodor) were brought up in an orphanage.
This is my stumbling block. We have the passport of my grandfather, Leonard Prodor, but it states his birthplace as 'unknown'. And we do not know where his father, Jozef is buried.
I know there is a Prozor family history in Poland. But I cannot connect our Prodor/Prozor family to that family because of Jozef's upbringing in an orphanage. There are no other Prodors in the world, and we have searched, especially with the internet. We must be Prozors. In fact, my grandfather's sister is buried in Poland, and on her headstone, her surname is Prozor.
All of the Prodor family is in Canada, the United States and Mexico. We have connected with descendants of my grandfather's sisters in Poland. But they are not equipped to research orphanages, etc. from the 1860s.
I am hoping that someone reading Polish Origins Forum can help me. Thank you!! _________________ Janice Prodor
