Post subject: Serving in Russian Army
I have a story that my husbands grandfather (polish) did two tours in the russian army in the late 1800s. Any idea on how I would be able to research that. I have not yet stumbled on a military list

I am no expert but my 2nd great uncle served a time in the Czars army in the early 1900's (he was listed as a "ticketed soldier" on his nephews baptism. He was the godfather).
There was a period in the 1800's when a consript in the Imperial Russian army would have to serve something close to 20 years before his time was up (many men never came home). By the late 1800's the term might have been reduced with army reforms. I have heard that Russian Military archives might have such records (I believe it's in St. Petersburg) but considering relations with Russia now not sure what help they'd offer you.
Good luck with your search.
