Post subject: help with name and Chlopice
I am trying to find my grandfather. His name in America was Peter Macina. when we look at his naturalization papers his name is Piotr Macyna. I find nothing on him and when I look on ellis island he has Macjna I think but how else would this name be in polish. According to his ob. his father name was John and his mother maiden name was Mary lesko. He was born on July 12 1885 and 1886 and I believe he comes from the town of Chlopice. He was a ruthenia and it also says galacia. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
In a round about way, I learned that Macina is a properly spelled surname. It also existed in the old province of Przemyskie in 1990. http://www.herby.com.pl/indexslo.html
There is also a place named Chlopice in the powiat of Jarosławski. Today, however it's in the province of Podkarpackie.
