Ute and PolishLibrarian (Ginny),
I read your posts regarding the Nowy Targ region and a search for Polish surnames. Thank you for taking the time to share this information. I am also researching the Chlebowski surname. I have traced my great-grandfather, Anthony (Antoni) Chlebowski to Nowy Targ. He emmigrated to the United States in 1904. Ute, you mentioned that you would post information for the Chlebowski surname. I would also be interested in that information. Ginny, perhaps we should chat more to discover if we are searching for the same branch of the Chlebowski family tree?

That would be great if you could do Trabka and Chlebowski when it's convenient for you. Feel free to send me a private message rather than posting here, unless you think it would also be of interest to others. Again thank you for sharing this great resource. ~Ginny

Ginny,
I took the time and looked up the surnames Trabka and Chlebowski in Bubak's books for you: Trabka was listed 1722, 1741, and 1765 in the book of births in Waksmund. Variations of the surname Trabka are Tramka, listed 1765 in the book of births in Waksmund; Tromka, listed 1767 in the book of births in Nowy Targ; Trampka, listed 1769 in the book of births in Waksmund; Trombka, listed 1801 in the book of births in Gronkow; and Trapka, listed 1805 in the book of births in Waksmund. Trabka was also found in the books of registration in Czarny Dunajec and Ostrowsko (years not given).

There was only one entry for the surname Chlebowski in Bubak’s books: Chlebowski, organarius, listed 1807 in the book of births in Rogoznik.

An organarius is a musician, who knows, perhaps you have a famous Podhale musician in your family tree.

Ute~ Thank you for reporting so promptly on the Trabka and Chlebowski surnames, listing all of the variant spellings of my various surnames, and the summary of documents and dates that Bubak covered in his book. I appreciate the effort and your willingness to share the info. from your copy of the book.

I see that Rogoznik is on the road between Ludzmierz and Czarny Dunajec so this could be my family - since my great grandmother was born in 1848 in Ludzmierz, this organarius in the 1807 book of births could be her grandfather. One never knows!

On my grandmother's side, one of her nephews, who died in 2009, was a church organist in Kielce. For his 44 years of service to the church he was awarded the Medal Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice by Pope Benedict XVI.

There may be organists in both my paternal Polish lines, but the talent certainly didn't trickle down through the generations! ~Ginny

Michelle~ I'll reply to you offline this weekend. I really don't know any more than what I posted here - Chlebowski just turned up in those baptismal records I saw. ~Ginny

I am happy to report that The LDS Church records from Jaryczow Nowy have information about my family! Catharina Tuz, was born 28 Aug 1840 to Gregory Tuz, son of Andreas Tuz and Catharina Kuzminska, and Marianna Kaczorowska, daughter of Joannis Kaczorowska and Agnetic Poszewska!

Ute,
Do you have any information about Jan Zadenski, or similar spelling, who was a lawyer in 1896 in Wroblowka/Czarny Dunajec? Thank you! cath

Unfortunately not, cath. I found some Zadenski families in the US, e.g. a John Zandenski, wife Kathy, from Galicia -- https://familysearch.org/search/records/index#count=20&query=%2Bsurname%3AZadenski~ but couldn't find a connection to Wroblowka/Czarny Dunajac.
