Post subject: Translating Family Letters?
Hello -
I'm new here, so please feel free to move this or ask me to move this if there is a more appropriate place.
When I was visiting my paternal praciotki (surname 'Michalik') last summer in Summit Hill, Pennsylvania, I came across a box of old letters and postcards sent from family back in Poland. They date from 1915 to the early 1960s. Most of them seem to be holiday wishes, but there are some longer letters in there as well.
The dialect and grammar on some of them are not great, and the handwriting can be difficult to decipher. I had one resource attempting to translate a few of them, but our communications dropped off.
The letters are from the Nowy Sącz area, mostly small villages nearby, or written by people FROM that area - so I'm not sure if there is a dialect difference between them and the previous translator.
I was hoping to get some assistance on translation, as some of this will be very helpful in tracking down my roots from this side of the family. I've hit some of the proverbial 'brick walls' in my research - but considering how small some of these towns are, I'm hoping to pull out as many details as possible.
I've gathered them all in this album on imgur.com:
Since there are dozens of letters in your link, some might feel discouraged to help with the translations. I would suggest posting one letter at a time in the Polish Records Translations thread. Good luck
