I am searching for my grandfather Samuel Tober's family. The information on the Hamburg passenger lists gives his last residence as Bartaszewa. I've found mention of one in Gmina Police and one in Gmina Obrowo. A family story places his home about 25 miles from Warsaw. Can anyone help determine which , if either place was his home. He immigrated to US and Wisconsin in 1888.

Thanks for helping.

CRLEH, RE: Tober/Bartoszewa

I do not have any information about your Tober family, but I might suggest that I recently posted a link on the Forum: "Research, Resourceses, Tools & Tips." dated Monday Feb. 7th, 2011

It is titled : "In Poland Distance Calculator"

If you open the link you can then enter in the calculator: Warsaw and then Gmina Police and see what the distance between the two places is.

Then make a second calculation of: Warsaw and then Gmina Obrowo and see what the distance between the two places is.

Which ever one comes out to be close to the family story of 25 miles from Warsaw, may give you a good clue as to the best possible correct location.

Good Luck,
MaryAnne

I found Bartaszewa in Gmina Police and think that one is too far away from Warsaw. I found mention of the one in Gmina Obrowo but it's not on any maps. I guess what I really wanted to know was if anyone knows the location (perhaps an old map that I haven't been able to find) and if there is anywhere at all to look for records from a town that perhaps no longer exists.
