I am looking for information on the Osmanski family line.

John (or Johann) Osmanski B: 6 October 1832
Spouse: Dorothea Lukaszewski B:02 Feb 1837

I am looking for John's father and mother. I think his father was John as well and mother was Elisabeth Popowska??
Where they lived / parish.

They arrived in America from Bremen to Pennsylvania May 1887.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Which ship did they travel on and which port did they arrive in ?

Also, could you please supply either the URL link to the passenger list or post the passenger list to his forum. We may be able to extract some clues as to a possible place of birth.

Another avenue to explore would be the marriage certificates of each of their 6 children, in Milwaukee. The marriage certificates may offer more clues as to the place of birth.

Unfortunately, I do not have the name of the ship. They arrived in Pennsylvania, but specifically I do not know. I did find one reference that they departed from Bremen and arrived in May 1887. I also do not have access to the marriage certificate for any of the children. They are in Milwaukee and I am in North Carolina.

I have tracked down the birth records of some of their children (born in Poland) and grand children (born in Milwaukee).

In the birth record of grand-daughter Sophie Osmanski (born 11 Jan 1895 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin) to August Osmanski (son of John and Dorothea), August’s place of birth is recorded as Petersdorf, Kries Löbau, West Prussia. It also matches similar details for Frank Osmanski in the birth records of his children (also in Milwaukee).

Petersdorf in Kries Löbau, West Prussia is in today’s central north Poland and is currently known by the village name of Mierzyn, within the Polish województwo of Warmińsko-Mazurskie.

It comes under either of two parishes – Lipinki or Łąkorz. Both parishes’ BDM records have been microfilmed and are easily accessible via FHS. I did a quick scan and came up with the following birth records of John and Dorothea’s children. Couldn’t do any more as I am about to board a long distance flight.

Joseph Osmanski (23 Nov 1859 - )

Anna Osmanski (4 April 1864 Lipinki - )

Franz / Frank Osmanski (22 August 1865 Petersdorf Kreis Leban/Loban/Lauban – 1943 or 19 Nov 1944)
Married Anna Jezewska (1869-1952) on 9 Oct or 10 Sep 1888 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, United States

Rosalia Osmanska (10 May 1867 - )

Married Magdalena Pawelkiewicz (1876-1941) on 6 June 1893 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, United States

Anton Osmanski (21 Feb 1871 – )

There are bound to be more, given the names of the children who emigrated to USA with the parents, but I have run out of time.

Anyway, at least you now have a location and set of microfilms that you can examine online. I suggest you start by looking for a marriage certificate between 1852 and 1859 for both parishes - Lipinki or Łąkorz.

I also suggest that you request a copy of John Osmanski’s petition for Naturalisation. John was naturalised in Milwaukee on 7 May 1900. Naturalization Petitions for U.S. District & Circuit Courts, Northern District of Illinois and Immigration and Naturalization Service District 9. That may also provide evidence of his date and place of birth.

Good hunting
