Can one obtain the documents in Geneteka, or does one contact the parish? I'm tracing the location of Ostrenga Family (large numbers of them) in Lesser Poland just north of Tarnow close to Smigno. Catherine is a likely match. I also can view film in familysearch.org viewable at their library only.

Hello Stephen,

Sometimes there are scans of documents added to the index on Geneteka website. It really depends on an individual record.

In this case, there is no scan for Catherine's birth. The person who uploaded this information also appears inactive since 2012, so contacting parish directly or the archdiocesan/diocesan archives would be a good idea.

Let me know if you will have any problems, you know my email Smile

Kind regards,
Aleksander

All the records on your Geneteka page are available on line on the above. Registration (free) is required. Your records are under Kielce.

Stephen, these records are written in Cyrillic.

My Russian skills aren't terrific, but I am 80% sure that it would be the record number 91 on page 44th in the upper left corner: http://metryki.genbaza.pl/genbaza,detail,202951,24

You can post it in this topic: https://forum.polishorigins.com/viewtopic.php?t=3525&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=1620 and perhaps someone would help with translating it.

I have good news and bad news. Parish Połańiec was not in Kielce, but in Tarnobrzeski. So no records in the site I gave.
The good news is that Geneteka does have scans on line.

Akt 91-94 urodzenia 1879. ( have attached akt 91)
I don't read Catherine Ostręnga on this record, but maybe the Russian differs. I have also attached the index entry for akt 91.

In order to access Geneteka you must first create a profile at genpol.com - I just tried to join, but the site asks for your exact address. This makes me uncomfortable - why do I need to share my address and give coordinates? If you choose not to give this information, you can still join (just click "further" without filling in the information) but a you get a clear message stating that because you did not share your address, not all features are available to you.

So..... what features are not available and why am I being pressured to share my personal address? Is that the cost of accessing the free info on Geneteka? Is our personal information being sold?

And if you made up a fake address and other details how would anyone know ?
If I have to fill out a mandatory field, I hardly ever use correct personal details - correct country and city =Yes, but not street address or heaven forbid, correct date of birth. My standard birthday is 1 January +/- 5 years of my actual. I mean, do you really think they are going to spend time cross checking people's personal details ?
Just a suggestion based on my 25 years on the Internet Smile
