I recently learned that the suffix "ski" or "zki" can mean "from" or "of". Recent confirmation of my surname certainly fits that logic!

I'm researching the name WAKSMUNDZKI with the nickname "Ludzia". My great-grandfather was from Zaskale, but someone very knowledgeable and helpful on the subject suggested that the family originated in the nearby village of WAKSMUND (or adjacent Ostrowsko).

I've heard the name Waksmundzki is likely pretty common in the village of Waksmund. I'm hoping the clue of the nickname "Ludzia" can better help me locate info or a source for information in the village of Waksmund.

If anyone has any knowledge; particularly on the name Waksmundzki or research in Waksmund, I'd be very pleased by your response.

"Ludzia" or "Lodzia" might be a shortcut from the female name of Ludmiła or Leokadia.

Waksmund is indeed full of Waksmundzkis, we had a couple of tours there to uncover the Waksmundzki lines of our guests.

There is also quite a few of topics about Waksmund and Waksmundzkis on our forum, you might be interested in reading them:

I would be VERY grateful for any information anyone might be able to provide related to the WAKSMUNDZKI family who lived in ZASKALE.
I have the following confirmed, but limited information/documentation:

Info from 1846:
JAN WAKSMUNDZKI, house #13, Zaskale
(possibly my great-great-great grandfather)

Son (likely) or nephew (less likely) of Jan Waksmundzki who also lived at house #13, Zaskale:
WOJCIECH & TEKLA MROZEK WAKSMUNDZKI (Wojciech’s nickname - “Ludzia”)
(my great-great grandparents)

Son of Wojciech & Tekla Mrozek Waksmundzki who also lived at house #13, Zaskale prior to and after marriage (until 1899/1901/1902 when immigrated to US)
ANTONI (b 28 Jul 1867/70/71) & ROZALIA JACHYMIAK (b 11 Jul 1865) WAKSMUNDZKI
(Married 25 Feb 1895 in Ludzmierz)
(my great grandparents)

Children of Antoni & Rozalia Waksmundzki born in Zaskale:
JOSEPH WAKSMUNDZKI (b ? 01 Jan 1895/97) (my grandfather)
MARY WAKSMUNDZKI (b 13 Dec 1898)

- Antoni & Rozalia Jachymiak Waksmudski are my great-grandparents.
* I have info related to Rozalia Jachymiak Waksmundzki and her (Jachymiak) family in nearby Ludzmierz;
as well as info related to Antoni & Rozalia Waksmundzki and their family after their US arrival.

- I am primarily interested in any information (name connections, occupations, civil or church documents) related to
any of the individuals in bold above while in Zaskale, or any connections to other family members;
either in Zaskale or nearby Waksmund.

- I am not sure if the family goes back any further than Jan Waksmundski in Zaskale.
- It has been suggested that the family may have initially come from nearby Waksmund or Ostowsko,
but I have nothing to base that on other than a suggestion.
- As of the 2008 phone book, no Waksmundzki’s lived in Zaskale.

Thank you in advance for any information anyone can provide.

-Ann R.
