Post subject: Magda Family in Poland
Can anyone help me find information on my grandfather Josef (or Joseph) John Magda, born 10 Sep 1894 in Trzesn, Podkarpackie, Poland? I know he came to America in 1914. I want to know anything about him before coming to America. Is Magda the right name or a misspelling once he got to America. How can I find relatives to contact in Poland?

There are 3 places named Trześń in Podkarpackie voivodeship. Would you know in which was Josef born? According to an online database, 12 people live(d) in Trześń, gmina Niwiska (https://goo.gl/maps/gYH5KzzVxtk).
Magda is not a popular surname (about 2000 people living in Poland according to the same database), but the spelling is authentic.
As for the relatives, most likely more research should be carried to study Josef's collateral lines and their descendants. Unless you are really lucky and someone remembers that his great grandfather had a brother named Josef

Thank you for the fast response and the help.
Other documents I have state my grandfather was born in Trzesn, Kolbuszowa, Austria. Another says Trzesn, Galacia. I know from research how maps and town and counties get changed over time, depending on who has invaded now. It's very hard to keep track.
People who are Russian or Ukrainian often tell me I don't look Polish, but rather German. Could be, I tell them, that a German family moved to Poland and started having kids, I don't know.
By the way, his father's name was Clement Magda, if that determines anything.

This would definitely be the Trzesn from gmina Niwiska then. The one I mentioned previously. Its parish church was in Niwiska as well.
Magda is an unusual surname as it derives from the female name Magdalena and it's hard to trace its origins.

Is it possible for me to access this online database you mentioned where 12 Magdas live(d) in Trześń, gmina Niwiska? I don't know how to write the address of Polish houses like for writing letters, but I got info that my great-grandfather's descendants live in Trzesn house # 85.

This would be this database: https://nazwiska-polskie.pl/Magda#map.
Unfortunately, it does not have detailed information, only numbers.
The number of your great-grandfather's house can be useful in locating the correct address but having a house number will not be enough. Most likely you should locate an old map from the area and compare with a new one.
