Post subject: What does Łomaszkiewicz mean?
I desperately want to know the origins or at least the meaning of my last name. My family is from Masiewo and from all we know we've been Orthodox Poles with some belarusian roots. I've always wanted to know the meaning of my name considering I can look to my English friends and easily find the meanings of theirs and I just want to settle things.
Please if anyone can help me or point me in a direction on how to find out what Łomaszkiewicz means I'd be extremely grateful. Thank you[/b][/i]
Łomaszkiewicz might come from the old Polish word łomić się- to wrestle, struggle, exert oneself
Currently there are onlu 13 people bearing this surname living in Poland, but most of them are near the Polish-Belarussian border and 1 person is living in Narewka, which is the village next to Masiewo, in Białowieża forest!
See the surname distribution map: https://nazwiska-polskie.pl/%C5%81omaszkiewicz (please be aware that this map may not be very accurate).
