It's my mothers maiden name and I was curious on what it means or where it might come from. I've tried researching the best I could but the most I've been able to find is there's people with the same last name in Finland. Thank you and hope you have a great day.

For me the name looks like of eastern Poland/ Russian origin. The ending -owicz means descendant, member of the family, here of the family of Filin. What means Filin? In polish nothing, in russian - an owl. The names from the historically eastern Poland (now Belarus or Ukraine, etc.) often have mixed origin. But if it is the right explanation - I don't know.
