I'm new to PO and this is my first Forum post, so be gentle Smile

I have been doing research on my Polish background here in the United States, using family members and ancestry.com, but have hit a roadblock as soon as I try to cross the Atlantic to find information from Poland.

My maternal grandfathers last name was Piorkowski, and his parents were Walenty Piorkowski and Anna Banicki, both originally from Poland. They were born in 1874 and 1879, respectively. Walenty may have been from Czarnia(?), and Anna may have been from Szymbark(?).

My maternal grandmothers maiden name was Zelek, and her parents were Walter Stanely Zelek and Anna Gnilewicz, again, both originally from Poland. They were born in 1894 and 1892, respectively. Walter may have been from Limanowa, but it is unknown where in Poland Anna was from. Her fathers name may have been John Gnilewicz.

I apologize in advance for my misspellings. I've also used the English version of their names because I can't find a consistent spelling for the Polish versions. I only learned "the good words" from my grandparents growing up. I would appreciate any tips, information, advice, and suggestions on where else I could look or dig up information on their parents / siblings / cousins.

Władysław Zelek was born in Sechna, Limanowa, Galicia, Austria (now Sechna, Małopolskie, Poland).
