My 2x’s great grandfather Louis William Geck, born in Warszawa, Poland in 1818. He was a possible stowaway during the Polish Upraising in 1831. He was part of the 234 Polish exiles that came from Austria to New York (Castle Garden) in 1834, he would have been around 16 years old.
It is a family story of him being a stowaway, it is noted in "Poles in the 19th Century Southwest" by Francis Casimir Kajencki. It is possible that the name was changed when he came to the US (Geck)
IHis possible parents names are George and Carolina Geck, never have been verified, other possible last names Gaikowski, Gaikoski. How do I find birth records in Poland during this time period? Any help would be appriecated. My website is www.thegeckfamily.com
