Post Posted: Tue Oct 08, 2019 6:07 am      Post subject: Help finding anything - Mieczyslaw Rupa
Reply with quote

I met my Polish grandfather for the first time 2 years ago. I have used the following details my aunt gave me to search for ANY document, or just ANYTHING in relation to his family, and have found nothing. She is adamant that our surname was not changed in his migration to Australia.

Mieczyslaw Rupa. Born December 5, 1931 in Świniuchy, (Horochow?), Wolyn, Poland.
His father and brother were killed before the war. His brothers name was Stefan. The details weren't passed on. He had 3 sisters also, Olga Paska who was the eldest and lives in Edminton, Canada. Jenny and her partner Mike, who live in New York. Maryanne and her partner Fred Hondzinki who live in Stirling Heights, Michagen.

His mother loved gardening, and they had 2 farms. The Russians came and wanted her to provide food for them, and send her children to a Russian school. When she refused, they came to take the kids away, so she hid at their other farm. At this time my grandfather was 6 and stayed here for 2 years. The Germans soon came after and and took the kids, and made his mother work the farm. Her kids were processed over 3 months to Auschwitz, then separated and sent to different places.

Mieczyslaw was sent to a German prison farm at the age of 9,and the German family were kind to him. In the last days of the war, the American's saw the German vehicles and bombed the house. The German family looking after him were killed along with whoever was in the house. Because he was close to the bombing, he couldn't hear for weeks.

From here the only information I had was that he worked for the Germans and Italians as the money was good before coming to Australia. None of our family talk, and know how much it means to me to find out more about our family. I cant ask him as the topic is too sensitive and the rest of the family refuse to talk about it. I can find his Electoral Role documents here, but before Australia ... Nothing...except for one document showing he was in Naples, Italy.

I have searched on many websites, including Russian and Ukrainian without finding anything, except for one document showing he was in Naples,Italy. If anyone has any ideas , please help.

Thank you in advance, I appreciate it!
