Hello Everybody,
Is anyone so inclined to help me in interpreting the name of the City/Town/Province from the Manifest of Alien Passengers? Number 28 Stempien, Zofia
I really appreciate anybody's help and time ... I cannot figure that out Sad

Hi Maria,
I see the person above Zofia as being from Nowy Sacz and going to Meriden, CT.
I see Zofia as being from Glinik Mariampolski, also going to Meriden CT.
Does that fit with what you expect?

I have no birth or other non-US documents from grand-ma' Zofia. Trying to find her family and where she was born. This is supposed to be her last residence before coming to the US. I think this is a great start.
I see Glinik on the map but I don't see Glinik Mariampolski. I think you gave me some good home work to do!

Nowadays Glinik Marimpolski is a part of the town Gorlice.
I see Zofia Stępień baptism record in Gorlice parish, born 1877 in Glinik, daughter of Jakub and Anna nee Miciek.

Hi Marcel,
Thanks for explaining the name change of the town to Gorlice. Hopefully Maria can answer if 1877 seems like the right year for Zofia's birth.

I have to say that i got excited on your answers.

On the Manifest of Alien Passengers, April 1904, is stating that she is 23 years old. So she should be born in 1881, which reflects the husband's Naturalization papers which reports that she was born in 1881, March 10th (or 19th, unclear number).

BUT .... looking at the censuses, based on the age given, puts her in 1885 or 1884.
There is no date of birth on her death certificate and based on the info reported puts her in 1883.

I believe she was born in 1881 or before.

She got merried in 1906.

.... I think she was trying to hide her age because she was older than her husband .... Confused

!

On the death certificate reports the father's name Jacob. Mother's name is unknown.

She had a brother Joseph, who was born in 1876 (or 1879) that came in the U.S. I think before her.

Marcel, it's possible that she was born in 1877. Is that ok if I ask you how can I locate the birth certificate that you mentioned?
