I am trying to find out a little more about my mother and grandparents.

Grandfather was Józef Bryda born 1908 - possibly in Lublin
Grandmother was Irena Skłodowska born 1910 - possibly in Warsaw
Mother is Anna Maria Bryda - possibly born 23/12/1937 in Lublin.

I understand that he was deported in 1940 - June.

after some travels to Africa they arrived in the UK - in Wales.

Other than this, I have very little information other than a photograph of the Skłodowski family that my grandmother cherished.

Hello,

do you know the names of your great-grandparents? I came across the birth information of Joseph Bryda born in 1908 in Czerniejów. It is a village in the administrative district of Gmina Jabłonna, within Lublin County, Lublin Voivodeship, in eastern Poland. It lies approximately 4 kilometres (2 mi) north of Jabłonna and 15 km (9 mi) south of the regional capital Lublin. The surname of Bryda is common in this area.

Due to Polish data privacy law, your mother's birth act is proably still kept in Lublin Civil Registry Office, where it is impossible to do the regular genealogical research on one's own, but you can apply there for your mother's birth ct copy transcript.

Best,

Michal

Hello,

I suggest you begin by ordering all documents pertaining to your grandparents from England before attempting to find them in Poland. For example, I think I found the index entries for their death records in the Ancestry.com database. See below. Perhaps you can order a copy of their full death certificates. The death certificates may have more information such as names of parents or place of birth.

You might also contact the British government office that manages naturalization records and see if they can search for his immigration and naturalization records. Or, If he was deported during WW2 the Red Cross May have information on him. Most likely, he was held in a displaced persons camp prior to settling in Wales.

Good luck with your search,
Cynthia
