Post subject: Name changes: Jablonski/Jablonowski
Can anyone tell me why the Jablonski / Jablonowski name resulted in two different spellings. Since there are baptisms in the Jablonski name and some in the Jablonowski name? Was this due to territorial partition or were the name changes due to different branches of the name. What would be the relationship between nobility Jablonowski and others with the Jablonski/Jablonowski name. Or was the name changes a result of tenants using land that belonged to the nobility
I've seen those same surname variations in so many Polish families. For example, Baran, Baranski, Baranowski, Baranczyk. I've always wondered if there was any real meaning to it. For example social or economic status. Sometimes there seemed to be a gradual evolution. But other times they just flipped back and forth for no reason. Even different children from the same family. I doubt their parents would have been changing social status so easily. I suspect it was up to the priest. But I'm curious too.
