Post subject: Polka
I had a Polish Musician from Warsaw tell me that the Polka is not Polish at all that it is Czech. Can anyone clarify this?? Did the Czech's bring the Polka influence into Poland??
Yes, I was also taught in music school that polka originated in Czech. It is very popular there, but is also well known and still often danced on Polish weddings. What is interesting "polka" literally in Polish means 'Polish woman'.
Only a few days ago I had a chat with my son's guitar teacher and he told me that there are also theories about Polish origin of this "lively" dance .
My favorite polka performer is Li'l Wally, or just Maly Wladzio in Polish, uncovered only a few years ago thanks a friend from Chicago.
