I'm trying to locate information about my grandmother. All I know is that her name was Anna Zieba and in 1900 she was 19 or 20 years old and came from Galicia Austria. Other spelling I have found are Ziemba and my father birth certificate was changed to Zimba

Welcome to the Forum Carl,

Zieba (or Ziemba) is a very common surname in Poland, especially in old Galicia region. There are about 29,000 people in Poland using this name!

(BTW our website developer is also Zieba and also lives in old Galicia Smile ).

I am afraid that without any data regarding the possible place of origin it will be impossible to find any information about your ancestors.. Maybe in this topic http://forum.polishorigins.com/viewtopic.php?t=87 and especialy in the article posted by Nancy you will find a hint for your research.
