Post subject: Finding my roots - Karas and Iwan family from Kielce
Hi I live in Canada and I have no indeal what my Polish background is. This is all I know that my grandmother married name would of been Maria Iwan Karas born around 1914 in Kielce and she married Fransikiz Karas. My mothers name is Mary Karas and she has a sister Jan Karas. My grandfather murderd my grandmother and my mothers other older sister Helana in 1950 and that was found dead on the train tracks. Im looking for inforamtion on my grandmother Maria Iwan. My mother has found some of my grandfathers family but they say he was picked up by soilders on the side of the road when he was 19 and never heard from him again, so it was a dead end. My mother and aunt Jane were than taken to Canada as refugies.
Please any information would be helpful

Hi,
I'm so sorry to hear this tragic story. Is your mother still in Canada? Is your mother or Aunt Jane able to tell you where in Kielce their family lived? Was it actually in Kielce or a smaller nearby village?

I might have misunderstood what you wrote - did you say that the adoptive mother burned the orphanage file before she died?

I understand. How old was your mother and your aunt when they went to Canada? What year did they go to Canada?
What orphanage? Did your mother or aunt ask the orphanage ask the orphanage for the
records?

Hi My mother has been given all the informatin she could get from the orphanage. She has been able to find her fathers sistr who said that he disapeared when he was 19 picked up and forced to work in the war. She thought he died till my mother found her a few years ago. My mother can't find any info on her mother though. When the urder occured my mother is not sure but the other women that was murdered Irena they think was my mothers half sister from my grandmothers first marriage. My grandmothers name was Maria Iwan Karas. But if she was married twice we don't know what her maiden name was. Should there not be some kind of records on the murder?
