I cannot really find an answer to the question of what is proper amount to send gift for those who complete translations on this site. The first time I request 3 brief translations. That is, they were not long translations. I asked the translator for a suggestion and was given an amount. I sent that amount via Paypal. The second time I had 6 translations, but similarly they were shorter translations and I sent an amount based upon the per translation gift I sent the previous time. This time, I have requested 3 long translations and am seeking some kind of feedback on what would be appropriate. I want to continue to use this site and the people for translations and I want to properly support them. Is there some kind of rule of thumb that I can use? You can PM me with any suggestions. Thanks so much. Karen Jones

Can You write how long these translations were and how much money You sent?
Please provide more information. Also, what kind of documents they were and what kind of documents you requested to translate lately?
What was the language of these documents?
Please PM to me.

Karen and @everyone,

Just as a reminder from PolishOrigins Team.

Rules of translations are outlined in the four posts which are at the top of the section Research in Poland: https://forum.polishorigins.com/viewforum.php?f=9

- Help in Russian records translations! https://forum.polishorigins.com/viewtopic.php?t=336
- Donations for translations. https://forum.polishorigins.com/viewtopic.php?t=983
- Records Translations Guidelines: https://forum.polishorigins.com/viewtopic.php?t=6661
- Help in Latin records translations! https://forum.polishorigins.com/viewtopic.php?t=1760

In short, the donation for translation is only an option. All members of the Forum who do the translations do this voluntarily. To some, you can donate directly without PolishOrigins' interference in the process. If you want to send a donation to someone who does not make his or her payment option available you can do this via PayPal to the address: [email protected] with the subject line For "translators name” for example: “For Elzbieta". The money will be transferred to the translator after the deduction of PayPal charges and applicable taxes.

So replying to your question Karen, there is no rule of thumb for this.

As part of our Genealogy Services: https://polishorigins.com/genealogy we do translations also if there is a large number of records to be deciphered. But it is independent of the Forum translations which are free of any charge.

Good luck in your search!

Thank you everyone for your responses. I do not want to appear that my gift for translations is not fair. I want to support those who are doing this. Karen
