Hi, My mothers maiden name Gar or Gahr. Trying to find any information about the family. Have been unable to find anything about the family. thanks Barbara

Hi Barbara,
It is a name that exists in Poland, but it is very rare.
Here is a map that shows the distribution of GAHR:

If you look beneath the map, you will see the names of the towns in which these people live (eg., 6 in Grudziadz).
Using a different source (one which makes use of Polish census data from the 1990s) there were also 18 people who used the spelling GAR (2 in the wojewodztwo of Bielskie, 4 in Wloclawskie and 12 in Wroclawskie).
Your best bet in trying to find information about your family is to determine where they were from. I hope this helps narrow it down for you.

Thank you for the information.
I have the family members being born in Witkowo, Danzig, Wloclawek and Chocen areas.
So how do I find any information about them since there are very few of them?
