Post subject: Can not find passenger list for attached record
Hi I am looking to find the passenger list entry for John Poletza. On his declaration of intention form it says he arrived in America on 24 July 1907
But on the other attached document it says it departed Hamburg Germany on 20 May 1906 and arrived in New York (what looks to be) 3 June 1906. He lived in Lansford, Carbon county, PA

Hi Tim,
Attached are the Hamburg and New York passenger lists. This is definitely him because his destination on the NY list is to his brother Micolaj in Lansford, PA.
Hamburg lists last residence as Rymanow but NY is interpreted as Dynow. My eyes see Rymanow in both lists. Here is a basic wiki article for current day Rymanow

Best,

Thank you for the response Cynthia! I was spending most of my time searching for him on his said arrival on 3 June 1906 on the ship Trave. I didn't find him there though. How did you find it??

Hi Tim,
I first used the year and month he gave on his declaration figuring it was an earlier document and his memory might be better. I also decided to search for the Hamburg list first figuring the surname would be closer to the original and less Americanized.
I used ancestry and searched only immigration records only for Hamburg departures in July 1907 (no filters on date) with the name Jan Poleca (Closer to the original Polish spelling), with a filter of exact, similar, sounds like. I used a birth date of 1890 +/- 1 year.
It returned 2 results, one of which was Iwan Palica departing July 14 1906. It took about 10 days to cross which would have him arriving about July 24 1906. I figured he may have not remembered the date correctly and this was close enough to look for the NY arrival list.
I then used the same search criteria to search only New York passenger lists. One of the results was the same ship name arriving on July 24 and of course his name was spelled differently but close. Confirmed by reading the list and seeing his destination.
Hope this helps,
Cynthia
