Here are a couple of sites that might be helpful in family research:

1 - www.auschwitz.org.pl/new/index.php

Contains thousands of names, and various bits of information
of those that perished at Auschwitz-Berkenau.

clik on the name " AUSCHWITZ - BERKENAU "
clik on "SEARCH"
enter name you are searching for

2 - www.1944.pl/index.php

This is a web site for the "Warsaw Rising Museum" in Warsaw.
There is a memorial wall where soldiers, and civilians who died
in the Rising of 1944, have their names engraved.
A "must see", if ever in Warsaw.

clik on " VIRTUAL MEMORY WALL "
clik on " SEARCH "
enter name you are searching for

3 - http://fallensoldiers3.tripod.com/id9.html

This site provides info about Polish soldiers who died in Russia,
Ukraine, East Poland, etc., during WWII. You will see ;
Date of Birth, Town Born, County, Military rank, Date died,
Place died, Place buried, etc.
A very easy site to get around. Has several "links" that provide
more info. Has a email address to request info to be searched
and sent to you.

I recently heard in Polish radio news about new website www.straty.pl.

This is a huge data base where there are compiled personal information about victims and people whose life was affected by the horrible experience of WWII.

In the database on the www.straty.pl there are included information from:

* The KARTA Center
* State Museum Stutthof in Sztutowo
* World Association of Home Army Soldiers
* Veterans and Vitimized People Bureau
* Polish Red Cross
* State Museum Auschwitz-Birkenau
* State Museum in Majdanek
* Gross-Rosen Museum in Rogoźnica
* Central Museum of Prisoners of War in Łambinowice-Opole

The database is constantly developed and may be invaluable source of information. Unfortunately, as for now it is in Polish only. If you want to make request put in 'Nazwisko' field Surname of searched person, in field 'Imię' - First Name and in field 'Imię ojca' - Fathers name. If you know, you can also put date of birth (day/month/year). However, it is enough to put surname for the search to start.

According to some estimates there can be even up to 10 million Polish people who were in different way experienced by WWII.

Jim (username 'kurpie21') drew my attention that the site www.straty.pl is no longer available for search ..

Here is what we can read, in short, on their main page now:
National Institution of Remembrance on January 29, 2009 decided that the project Straty in years 2009 - 2011 will be realized by Polish - German Fundation 'Pojednanie' (Reconciliation). Thus all questions about relaunching database in the Internet should be directed to following institutions:

Sekretarz Komisji Ekspertów IPN, Waldemar Grabowski
tel. 0-22 431 83 54, e-mail [email protected]
Przewodniczący Zarządu FPNP, Dariusz Pawłoś
tel. 0-22 695 99 41, e-mail [email protected] .

Thank you Jim for noticing it and letting us know.
