Post subject: Popielarz - Gzub marriage record help
Could someone please help me find the link to the record below? I am guessing these are my ancestors even though the names are a bit different than I have them documented as? I have them as Popielarz and Gzub, but maybe that is the Americanized version of the name.
Catholic parish Góra (Żnin) [Bergen]
entry 3 / 1807
Simon Popielarczyk 88%
Rosalia Gzubionka 68%

Hi,
It looks like you found this information on the Poznan Project website.
When you are on that site, and looking at the search result for your ancestors, you will see that you can click on the name of the parish. When you do that, a new box of information pops up, which includes in it the following:
LDS microfilms
B 1622-1649 M 1608-1615 B 1762-1782 D 1762-1785 M 1762-1782 BM 1782-1803 B 1804-1853 1191252
B 1853-1881 M 1804-1826 M 1827-1881 D 1785-1817 1191253
D 1817-1829 D 1828-1882 1191254 #1-4
B 1622-1649 M 1608-1615 B 1762-1782 D 1762-1785 M 1762-1782 BM 1782-1803 B 1782-1805 2043900 #9-16

B 1901-1910 M 1882-1915 D 1882-1929 2126707 #1-3
This is a reference to the microfilms that you can find on the Family Search website. In your case, you have a marriage from 1807, so the microfilm numbers you want are # 1191253 and # 2058252.
You are not seeing Americanizations of their names, you are seeing Polish suffixes.
Best of luck in your research,
Sophia

Hi PJurek and Trish,
I think I was incorrect regarding my comment about Polish suffixes. Both Popielarz and Popielarczyk are surnames in use today. This record is in Latin, and therefore is not changing the endings of names the way a Polish record would. So in this case, the name may have been Popielarczyk and then shortened to Popielarz. Not sure about that. As for Rosalia's surname, I am sticking to my original comment. The name as written is not Gzubinska but Gzubionka, with the -onka ending being an obsolete ending for unmarried women. And might that "z" in fact be an "r", Grubionka?
It would be worthwhile asking Dave or Marcel to clarify both names.
Sophia
