Hi Everyone,
Here is a new twist. Seems Barbara Bonk (Bak) went back to Poland to see her family. Here is the ship manifest with her and her children. I need another set of eyes to make out the name of the town. I think it is Grodzisko.
Note: On the Naturalization record for Antoni, the town is listed as Rodzisko, could it really be Grodzisko?
According to various USA records, both Antoni and Barbara are listed as from Russia, Poland, Austria, and Galicia. Both Antoni and Barbara also list various birth dates. Their dates of birth on their marriage record doesn't match the date of birth on the Naturalization records.
Do you need the marriage record? I can post it if you need it.
Hope this helps,
Trish

Thanks Trish! There are so many twists! No dates or names or place names match up anywhere. It is Grodzisko and not Rodzisko, as that was what was on Barbara's passenger list at Ellis Island 1899. There aren't as many Grodziskos as Kopanies, and I think I have a strong lead on where to find her birth record too, once I investigate this:
"Poland, Church Books, 1568-1990", database, FamilySearch (https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:6V9B-ZMB4 : 10 December 2022), Barbara Bak, 1875.
I have the marriage record in the USA and will not have a problem getting any of the USA records-- it's mostly Antoni that I am struggling with because I only have "Joseph" as a lead for a parent, and no other records with clues about any family of his, his names and cities and dates are all off, as you noted...

Hi Hopskip,
Did you try to get any USA church records like the marriage record for Andrew and Barbara, or baptismal record for the children? You might find clues there. I know I have found clues on these records such as names of parents (including maiden names), towns they were born in, etc.
A note about the link you posted on familysearch. The link is broke, however, I was able to figure out how to see the webpage. You have to go to a Family History Center to view the record. The parents per this link show the father as being Antoni. Per the ship's manifest for Barbara, her father's given name looks like it begins with a "J". (I need another set of eyes to tell me the correct given name.)
Keep us posted on your progress.
Have a nice day!
Trish

Hi Trish and Hopskip,
On the manifest for Barbara (Bąk) Kojder, I see her father's name as Jerzy.

There's so many twists! But we must try to find Antoni and Barbara. Look at this. I found Kopanie is not far from Grodzisko.

Hi Sophia, Barbara, and Hopskip,
Sophia, thank you for verifying the father's name.
Barbara, Good find!
Hopskip, was there any information on their marriage record as to whom their parents are? Also, were they married in the Church? The Church record could provide the names of their parents.
I found this on Geneteka, but I can't access it in order to view the records.
https://geneteka.genealodzy.pl/index.php?op=gt&lang=pol&bdm=B&w=09pk&rid=8832&search_lastname=bak&search_name=barbara&search_lastname2=&search_name2=&from_date=1870&to_date=1880&rpp1=&ordertable=
Maybe someone can help us access the records for the two Barbara's listed.
Enjoy your day!
Trish

I have access to those records, Trish. Unfortunately no father named Jerzy. Checked the specific dates of birth for Antoni and Barbara. They are not there, unless baptized found the place much later.

If the father in either the 1875 or 1876 Geneteka records is Antonius, that may be her!
The marriage record that I have is just the docket, which has no information on parents. They were married in Pittsburgh, presumably in a Catholic church, as they are buried in a Catholic Cemetery outside of Pittsburgh. The Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh keeps these records, so I have put in a records request- hoping that their marriage records might have some clues.
I have no information about whether or not they knew each other in Poland, so I am not sure if I should be looking for Kopanies that are near Grodziskos (and there are a few of those too!) Antoni immigrated in 1893 and Barbara in May 1899. They were married very shortly after she arrived in Pittsburgh, in August 1899...

Hello,
Kopanie belongs to the parish of Grodzisko. They were almost the same age. I think they knew each other.
Barbara born 1875 was the daughter of Marianna (illeg).
Barbara born 1876 was the daughter of Jacob and Agatha.

Post subject: Updates!
I received records from the diocese about all four of my Polish ancestors! Yay! There were some discrepancies (e.g. "Grodzisko", "Grodzisko Dolne") from one child's baptism record to the next. I will paste what I received below, but I am not sure where to go from here. I would appreciate any suggestions on how to proceed to get their vital records from Poland. Every time I get more information, I just have more questions! TIA!

Hello,
Good news. I will see if I can find more. I found Antoni's brother in parish Grodzisko Dolne. See picture. Opaleniska act 3 (left side). Can read the names of Antoni and his brother Wincenty's grandparents.
Wincenty Kojder was born on March 11, 1881 in Opaleniska (Majdany) parish Grodzisko Dolne.
Grandparents:
Jozef's parents: Marcin Kojder and Katarzyna Burda
Katarzyna's parents: Szymon Burda and Agata Wnęk

Hi Hopskip and Barb,
What wonderful information you were able to obtain.
I believe this is Barbara Bak's birth and baptismal record #63. I need someone to verify the information for me. I cannot make out the surname for Anna.
https://www.szukajwarchiwach.gov.pl/jednostka/-/jednostka/19881825
Barbara Bak
Born: 10 September 1875 - Grodzisko Dolne
Baptized: 11 September 1875
Father: Andrzej Bak (son of: Walenty Bak and Barbara Maj)
Mother: Marianna Maj (daughter of: Tomasz Maj and Ann ? )
Hope this helps some.
Regards,
Trish
