Hi Barb,
I did see the Chałupnik surname in Geneteka, before I made my original post. However, since the document does not say "z Chałupników" it probably is not a surname but an occupation, as you said.
I will be interested to see what Dave will have to say about it. I imagine he is immersed in garden work!
All the best,
Sophia

Post subject: Translation - Michael and Karoline "Zoltek"
My great-grandpa (Michael Zoltek) always said he was an orphanage, but his wife, (Karoline Klotaczek) was overheard saying he had family. I am not sure of the spelling of Zoltek or Klotaczek given that when they came over from Poland their names were undoubtably changed a bit.
I know that their paperwork is consistent with saying they were both born and married in Pstrągowa, Poland. Michael spelled it PETROGOUEO POLAND on his Naturalization paperwork. He was born on August 29,1882 and Married Karoline on November 29, 1905. I searched online and found the attached and link below to the town's marriage records for November of 1905. There is not an entry for the 10th, but on the 8th it looks like the name Michael is spelled out under the Groom. Line 15.
I appreciate the assistance in translating this document. I am interested to find out more about how their names really were spelled as well as find the parents of Michael and Karoline.

Barb! That is marvelous! Wow! I tried to search for Karoline, no luck. I wonder if she was born somewhere else. I couldn't find their marriage either.

Unfortunately, I can't find Karoline or her wedding. Do you have any documents you could share with us? Ship's Manifest / Naturalization?

I do have the Ship Manifest - see attached images. She does not look like she had any Naturalization paperwork. Michael's Naturalization paperwork is what said her birth place was the same as his.
Here is what Ancestry says the writing says - she was traveling with Frank Zoltek and Michalina Zoltek - spellings vary on their names as well.

I did look at the scans up for Tekla's Death in 1883 and her son Andrzej in 1875 (he was born in the same year). Can you translate?
My family is blown away that I found anything past Michael. You are so helpful - thank you.

Hi Andrea,
I'm looking at the manifests you uploaded and I'm a bit skeptical.
Michael was born in Pstragowa.
Karoline with the children stated her last place of residence Vitkovice / Morawia.
One of the children is called Frantisek. It is a Czech form of Franciszek.
In addition, Vitkovice is a long way from Pstragowa.
Are you sure you found the right manifest?
Best regards,
-Barb

Andrea, we will wait to translate these records. There is a mistake somewhere. We must be sure that the family really came from Pstragowa. Or they are from the Morawia area. Can you load manifest as a whole?

I do think it is the right Manifest. My great uncle "Frank" has naturalization paperwork that says he was born in the Czechoslovakia (which I always thought was odd). But my great-grandma did come over with her eldest Frank and Michalina (spelling changes).
Michael Zoltek's ship manifest and naturalization is attached too along with the ship manifest for Karoline + kids and Frank's naturalization.
I did think it was odd that within a year or two of their marriage they had Frank in Czechoslovakia and Michaelina in Poland/Austria. She does not have naturalization paperwork to compare just census with her birth place.
Thanks!
