I am searching for information about an man
Zys (Zygmunt) Szpater.
He was born in Teratyn, Poland
1915, 25 March.

When I searched on Ancestry I found a man with that name and birthdates.
It was a dokument in US for Polish survivers.
I couldn`t understand but I saw
Wroclaw Trebuicka 3/12 cardnr 2031
16 March 1947 Wroclaw
Father Motia. Mother Hinda.

Please can someone help me to understand or find more about him during the war
or about his family.
He married a polish woman Wladyslawa Jedrusik in Warszawa 1954, 23 June or 1955, 10 June.
He emigrated to Sweden and died 2005.

I would be very greatful if anyone could help me.

Hi,
Have you checked the Arolsen Archives? Can you share with us the document from Ancestry?

Is this document from the US Holocaust Memorial Museum? Do you have an English version? I know Swedish but would like to see it in the original version.

Hi Barb,
I think Viskaleta is quoting for you the results from a search on Ancestry. They also would like to see the original version, that is why they are asking here.
Yes, USHMM is the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum.
Sophia

Hi Viskaleta,
You should probably send an inquiry to the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum and ask them for a copy of this card #2031. They do not put images of all their information on the internet, you need them to research it for you.

Hello,
The establishment of the state of Israel and lots of other things was the reason for the great emigration of the Jews from Poland. This started right after the war and lasted until about 1968.
He was Jewish. I just checked Arolsen. Found nothing. Did he emigrate first to the USA and later to Sweden?
Interesting is to do what Sophia suggests. Why information about him exists in the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum?
You can also try to get his marriage record, and his Swedish death record. In all the places I mentioned there is information about him, and it is not impossible to obtain this. Contact Muzeum Zydow Polskich "Polin" in Warsaw. Maybe they have something in their archives.
Trish, you have an Ancestry account. Do you see anything else?

Regards,
-Barb

Barb's suggestion to look at the Arolsen Archives is a very good suggestion. It is a huge website, and if you are having difficulty figuring out where to look, here is one part that I think is helpful:

"FAQ: My search in the online archive was unsuccessful. What can I do?
The best thing to do is to send an inquiry to the Arolsen Archives. Because even if your search does not produce any results, documents on the subject may still exist, as only some parts of the collection are available in the online archive. Another reason for the lack of search results could be that some documents are only available in scanned form. If this is the case, the contents of the file concerned are not searched. This applies to lists from concentration camps, for example. The process of indexing the documents to improve usability is already underway, but this is an enormous task that will take many years to complete."

Here is the link for sending them an inquiry:

Hi Everyone,

This is all I am finding.

There is no document for this record. It is only a transcription.

Name Zyś Szpater
Birth Date 25 mar 1915
Current Address Wrocław Trebuicka 3/12

Document 2 Place Wrocław
Father Motia
Mother Hinda
Card Number 2031
Source: Poland, Jewish Survivors in Poland, 1945-1947 (USHMM)

I found this interesting, however, I am not sure if it is the same person. Do you think this is Zys? This person has the same surname. The same date of birth. The mother's given name is the same. Do you think the transcriber misread the document?

Name Lip Szpater

Document 2 Place Sosnowen

Hi Trish,
Good find! Yes, this is highly likely to be a transcription of a handwritten document, with the transcriber doing their best but making small errors. The transcription of Card 2031 gives "current address" as "Wrocław Trebuicka 3/12." This is a tiny error because the street name should actually be Trebnicka. So, it means the address was Apartment 12, building #3 on Trebnicka street, in Wrocław. For the current address on Card 178233, the city is Sosnowiec which is spelled incorrectly later as "Sosnowen." The street name is harder to guess, perhaps it is Radosna or Rolnicza, perhaps something else, the handwriting must have been quite difficult to read. So, "Lip Szpater" could be "Zig Szpater" and this could then be the same person. As you pointed out, the birth date is the same and the mother's name is the same which is fairly convincing. There might be other documents where "Szpater" was hard to read, it could show up as Szpeter, Spater etc.
