Thanks for this amazing help and community.
I'm looking to find some more information about my grandfather. My grandfather was killed in Katyn Russia by NKVD, by communist regime in 1940, and I was born in 1957. I recently , 2 weeks ago found the information about my grandfather. His name was Turowski Boleslaw, he is from Zdolbunow, now its Ukraine, Riwne region. He was born in 1910, and serve as policman. Never heard anything about his fate. I would appreciate a lot for help in finding information or documents about him. THANKS

Hi Polcan and Barb,

I found this, but I cannot quite understand what it is saying. Is it your family? See # 185 on this page:

I know it is a small thing, but since you have so little documentation on your Boleslaw, here you can see his actual signature along with his classmates:

Also, this page from the same document is fascinating because it has so many officials from the town:

Best regards,
Sophia

Hello Sophia,
It seems that Aleksander and Anna also had a son Feliks. And in addition we have the birth and death date of Aleksander (father). He was born on July 17th, 1869 and died on October 26th, 1931. It is not certain who was Stefania.
See this link: http://www.nieobecni.com.pl/index.php?s=grob&id=166137. The pictures from the cemetery in Zdołbunów.

Regards,
-Barb

Thanks, Barb! It is fitting together, now.
From the link that I provided, you can also tell that when the family lived in Zdolbunow, they lived on ulica Panienska.

I'm so appreciate your help, it's very emotionally as well. We don't have close relatives here in Canada. My my mom died already as well, and no ppl to ask more questions.
I'll be very pleased to know where I can find more information and documents. Which archive, what city, where to look for answer. Thanks a lot for everyone. It is very emotional as well.

Hallo,
Unfortunately, only a small part of the parish records of Tajkury is available online. However, there is a lot of information about Wolyn. This site is very useful:

Hi PolCan,

Yes, it is very emotional. Of course we all want to know what happened to our relatives during the war, even when it is painful to know.

Here is another resource for you:
https://www.polishexilesofww2.org/archival-lists-katyn-lists
They start with these words: "KATYN is a term that has come to encompass a number of massacres perpetrated by the Russians during WW2 - in the Katyn Forest, at Charkow, and at Miednoje. Other locations have yet to be identified, and a complete listing of victims remains to be determined."
Look at the Miednoje List, and you will find your Boleslaw. He is also listed in the Katyn List of Posthumous Promotions. In the Ukrainian List, there is a Władysław Turowski but I do not know if he is your family.

We also want to remember the happier parts of their lives, so I hope you are able to find out more about his life in Zdolbunow. You should try to explore what they have collected here:
https://rv.archives.gov.ua/ocifrovani-sprav?period=5&&fund=5&annotation=6

All best wishes to you, as you remembered your grandfather last week on All Souls Day, and as you remember him this weekend on Remembrance Day in Canada.

Good morning, PolCan.

If you follow this link, you will find some lovely old postcards from Zdolbunow, along with a map and a few other results. I hope you find it interesting.

https://polona.pl/sets?searchCategory=objectSets&page=0&size=24&sort=RELEVANCE&searchLike=Zdolbunow

This Polona website is a good resource. You can search there for Tajkury also, since that is where the church was located.

Best regards,
Sophia

Here is Boleslaw's birth/baptism record. Could not load the whole page because the file was too large.
