Hi to all,

I received this email and scan from Grodzisk Archiv in Poland today and I need help with the translation. Would someone be kind enough and translate this for me. It's my great-grandparents marriage document. I'm hoping to also find the name of my great-grandfather's first wife, since he was a widower.

The email:
Nasz znak: 843-80/12

Szanowna Pani,

Przesylam w zalaczeniu skan z aktu malzenstwa nr 34 Jakob Reichenbach i Karoliny z Kroenigow, przechowywanego w zespole nr 73/68/0 Akta stanu cywilnego parafii ewangelicko-augsburskiej w Ilow 1834-1900, sygnatura 12, strona 427.

Z powazaniem Rafal Sztarski, archiwista, Oddzial APW w Grodzisku Mazowieckim

Thank you so much in advance !!

Helli

Helli,
I am not a polish speaker. Though I am a bit used to read BMD records, this one should be doublechecked to see if it is accurated.
It happened in Plock (?) on 17/29 October 1856, at 2 p.m. In the presence of the witnesses Krystyan Schwerfeger (?), 24 y.o. and Krystyan (can't readi it, looks like Stormer), 31 y.o., both farmers residing in Piotrkowek, today, at the church of the ewangelical parish, was celebrated the religious marriage between Jakob Rejchenbach, widower, a worker living in Piotrkowek, son of Albrech (it should be Albert) and Malgorzata (I think it mentions both parents were dead), 43 y.o. and Ms. Karolina Kroning, daughter of the deceased Jan (I can't read his surname) and Ewa (I can't read her maiden name), bor in Nowy....Piotrkowek. 28 y.o. Marriage was preceed by three announcements, at the ewangelical church on days 17 and 28 October and ..It was read to the witnesses who, except for Stormer, were illiterate.

Gilberto beat me to it but here's my translation Smile
It seems we agree on most details.

Date: 17th/29th October 1856 [the second date is the date according to the currently used Gregorian calendar. According to http://www.arc.id.au/Calendar.htm, 29 Oct 1856 was a Wednesday]

Place: Iłów [Ilow], Evangelical [Lutheran] parish church

Witnesses: Krystyan Schwertfeger ???, aged 24, and Krystyan Stoermer, aged 31, both farmers domiciled in Piotrkówek

Groom: Jakob Rejchenbach [Reichenbach], a widowed laborer aged 43, domiciled in Piotrkwek, son of Albrecht and Malgorzata Rejchenbach both deceased,

Bride: Karolina Kroening, born in Nowa Wies, domiciled in Piotrkowek, aged 28, daughter of Jan Kroening (deceased) and Ewa (still living) nee [can't read the maiden name]

Banns were read on 16th and 28th October and on two successive Sundays [not sure about that]

There were no hindrances to the wedding (i.e. no objections were submitted).

No prenup agreement was made.

Signed by the priest (presumably) and the witness Krystyan Stoermer, the others were illiterate.

Thank you soooo much for the translation. Now I at least know the names of my great-great-grandparents! Too bad Jakob's 1. wife's name isn't mentioned, but all of this is really good news to me:

THANK YOU !!

You're welcome. I checked again but Jakob's first wife's name isn't mentioned indeed. Anyway, we're happy about your discovery!
