How would you pronounce it?

I've heard gah-n'yaz-DOH-vich and nie-az-doh-vich

Thanks,
Matt

The G is pronounced here as in the word gosh or wig.
In English, the consecutive G and N sounds do not occur because is words such as gnaw the G is silent.

If you try to spell it in English it's pronounced more or less like [gn yahz DAW veech]
The [gn yahz] bit is pronounced as one syllable.

You can type the name in http://translate.google.com and click the loudspeaker icon to hear it pronounced.

The root of the surname is the word gniazdo which means nest (e.g. a bird's nest) or hearth (as in family hearth).

I hope this helps. Smile

Thanks, that is helpful. Also really neat that google translate can make sound clips.
