Hi Trish,

The couple married on 1. August 1861. According to the marriage entry, Wilhelm's father was deceased, his mother as well, only the bride's mother was alive. Her parents aren't listed.

Hi Michael,

Thank you for the translation and verifying the information I supplied. I appreciate all your help.

I am a bit confused. On Wilhelm Siewert's marriage record, it stated both parents were deceased. On Friedrich Siewert's marriage record, it stated the father was deceased, and the mother was alive. I was hoping to narrow down the year of death for Marianna (nee: Golubska) Siewert. I don't know which document to believe. Do you have any suggestions?

Warm Regards,
Trish

Hi Michael,
I wrote in another forum, and Sophia suggested that you would more likely see it here. This is the marriage between my great-great grandmother's brother Wojciech Kornak from Świlcza, and Maria Grzesik from Mrowla. It appears that he served in the military, and I was wondering if you could please translate what it says about that. Thank you for your time!

With Appreciation,
Cheri

I've attached it, but here is the link https://skanoteka.genealodzy.pl/index.php?op=pg&id=4571&se=&sy=4505&kt=1&plik=024.jpg&x=1990&y=849&zoom=1
It's on the page on the right, at the top of the page.
Also, if you do go to this link, if you could very quickly look to see if the 3 other marriage records on those pages are also in German. I can't tell. I don't need those translated, I was just surprised to see Wojciech's marriage record in German. I haven't noticed any German in Świlcza records...Thanks again

Hi Cheri,

Two of the records are written in German (the upper one on the left side and the upper one on the right side), the other two are written in Latin. In the 19th Century the region was part of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy, hence you might find several of the languages that were in use at this time. In this case a reason for using German might have been that the spouses were soldiers.

What I read about Adalbert / Wojciech is he was Urlauber-Korporal from the 8. Uhlanen Regiment Erzherzog Ferdinand Maximilian. Regiments were named after their chiefs and changed their name when the chief changed. The archduke Ferdinand Maximilian, later Maximilian I of Mexico, was chief of the 8th Ulans from 1846 till 1867. I’m not sure what is meant by Urlauber (being on vacation) in this context, but in the other German written entry the word Urlauber was used too (Gemeiner Soldat-Urlauber).

Hope that helps,
Michael

Hi Trish,

Please find my additions in bold:

Can you please translate the notations on the record also? The note on page 1 is written in Polish. If you compare how the groom’s name was written on this page (Ostroski) and how he signed on page 2 (Ostrowski), obviously the registrar got his name wrong. The same applied to Kurczeska/Kurczewska. This was corrected in 1960. On page 2 the registrar wrote a wrong address and confirmed with the note he corrected it.

Marriage Date: 1 February 1904
Marriage Place: Wola skorzencin

Groom: Bronislaw Ostrowski
Born: 8 March 1874 (I have actual baptismal/birth record.)
Place: Gembitz (Gebice), Mogilno
Father: Teodor Ostrowski (Father died in 1901.)
Mother: Teofila Kurczewska

Is Teofila alive or deceased? Alive and residing in Tremessen
Is Teofila living in Trzemeszno? Yes
Occupation for Bronislaw: Maurergeselle or mason

Bride: Helena Nowak
Birth Date: 7 January 1885
Birth Place: Lubochnia, Witkowo
Father: Wojciech Nowak
Mother: Anna Strzyzenzke
Are the parents alive or deceased? Alive
Where are the parents living? Lubochnia, Witkowo

Michael
