Post subject: Gorale and Tatras during World War 2 - a TV series
If you are interested in World War 2 as well as the Podhale region, the Tatra mountains and górale (Highlanders), I recommend you an eight-part TV series entitled “The Third Border”. It is based on a book by Adam Bahdaj who was inspired by his own wartime experiences as a “Tatra courier”. During WW2, he often made the journey across the Tatra Mountains, between Zakopane (in Nazi-occupied Poland) and Budapest (Hungary was an ally of Nazi German). He smuggled people and secret messages. The TV series is a Polish-Hungarian co-production. Alongside trained actors, it features many “indigenous” inhabitants of Podhale. It is not just a “war thriller” that keeps you at the edge of your seat; you can also watch traditional costumes and customs of the Górale.
Luckily, the series has been broadcast by TV Polonia with English subtitles, and you can watch all eight episodes on YouTube. The quality is not great, but enough to appreciate the film. Hopefully, an English-language version will be released in the future.

Post subject: Thank you
Thank you for the information about the Polish tv series about the 3rd Border, I do not speak Polish, and as I live in Philippines now, there is no chance of me ever getting to buy this movie now. And as for revisiting Poland? well that I think is now out of the question. But I still have Poland in my heart. I really appreciate your work, thank you.
