I was unable to find the name Cieryt in either Rymut’s or Hoffman’s book (see the Sources), although it may be related to the name Ciera, which originated from the verb cierac meaning “to rub, to wipe”. According to Rymut, the Cier- root gave rise to such names as Cierachowicz, Cieral, Cierczek, Cierek, Ciereniewicz, Ciereszko, Cierkosz, Cieroń, Cierzek, Cierzeń, Cierzuch and Cierzych.
