In searching for 19th century ancestors from the Wągrowiec - Łękno area north of Poznan, I have found the Catholic church records to be most helpful. However, perhaps because some parishes were extremely small, many times men married women one or two parishes away from their own. Are there any maps from this time frame which geographically show parishes? Thanks for any help.

Tim

Tim, I am interested in knowing how you accessed the Catholic church records. I would like to do the same for Catholic ancestors from the Sokolowo (Dulsk parish), Golub-Dobrzyn, and Isabela areas. Thank you for any help.

Try familysearch.org a free search tool offered by the Mormon Church. You can search for church records by place. If they have the records you can order microfilms for a fee and then view them in a Family History Center near your home. I have found Catholic records on my relatives in Russian- occupied Poland going back to the 1600's. Among many other factors, the availability of records depends on the actual physical survival of records given the numerous upheavals across Poland.

These maps for Russian Poland identify the location of churches with a cross on the place name.
